Here are some early thoughts on the schedule:

Another Arrowhead opportunity:

The Raiders get the national spotlight at Kansas City for the third straight year. This time, it’s on Black Friday, November 29. The game will be played on Amazon Prime the day after Thanksgiving. The Raiders enjoyed their Christmas Day standalone game at Arrowhead Stadium in 2023. Maybe there will be some more holiday magic for Antonio Pierce’s squad at Kansas City. the Raiders lost at the Chiefs on a Monday night in 2022.

#Raiders haven't played a Friday game since 1966 (23-14 W at Miami). They are 4-6-1 all-time on Fridays. Here are the others:
24-10 W at Pats 1965
43-43 T at Pats 1964
22-7 W at Chiefs 1963
20-14 L at Pats 1963
26-16 L at Pats 1962
44-7 L at Broncos 1962
20-17 L at Pats 1961…

Holiday streak continues:

The Raiders have been playing on holidays a ton lately. They won at Dallas on Thanksgiving Day in 2021, lost at Pittsburgh on Christmas eve night in 2022 and beat the Chiefs on Christmas Day last year. This time, it’s a Thanksgiving Friday game. Leftovers for all.

Carr date:

The Raiders’ long-anticipated game against former quarterback Derek Carr will happen in New Orleans in Week 17. The Raiders may need this game for playoff reasons, so this could be an extremely important reunion game.

Setting the tone early:

The Raiders open the season with a big opportunity with some huge storylines. The Raiders will open at AFC West rival, the Los Angeles Chargers —- they opened there two years ago and lost. The last time these two teams met, in last December in Las Vegas, the Raiders smoked the Chargers 63-21 on a Thursday night. It was the final game for Tom Telesco as the Chargers’ general manager after a near 11-season run. Telesco, of course, was hired to run the Raiders less than two months later. This game will also have a lot of attention on it as it is Jim Harbaugh’s first game as the Chargers coach in his return to the NFL in a decade. This is a big game for two teams with intentions of replacing Kansas City as the division champion. The Raiders and Chargers don’t meet again until Week 18.

Change SoFi fortune:

It seems like the Raiders may have an advantage with two road games (the Chargers and their ninth road game, at the Rams) as their fans will likely outnumber fans who support the home teams. But the Raiders haven’t had much success in LA since the NFL returned there in 2020 . The Raiders beat the Chargers there in in the first season at SoFi (with no fans in the building because of COVID). Yet, they have lost three straight games there to the Chargers and the one game against the Rams, all with fans in the stands

#Raiders have 1 prime-time game for their fewest in a season since 2015 when they also had 1. They also have a national window on Black Friday vs Chiefs. Last time they had only 2 games in national windows was 2019.

Not much prime time:

The Raiders have just two standalone games and just one at night, a Monday night game in Week 15 at home against Atlanta. The other is the Black Friday game that will play in the day time. Last season, the Raiders played in six standalone games with five in prime time. A big reason for that was the NFL was showcasing the beauty of Allegiant Stadium in the lead up to hosting is first Super Bowl as four of the Raiders’ night games last season were held in las Vegas. That’s far from the case this year as the Raiders have 15 Sunday morning or day games scheduled.

Amount of primetime games by team:

0: CAR

Reminder: Primetime for the NFL = game at night.

Don’t start 0-and-Harbaugh:

The Raiders’ have a tricky start to the season as they play two road games, at the Chargers and the Ravens. They are the Chargers’ opponent in Jim Harbaugh’s return to the NFL in Week 1 and then the Raiders pay his, brother, John Harbaugh in Baltimore in Week 2. These are two excellent coaches who possess strong quarterbacks in Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson. The Raiders have to find a way to enter their home opener at 1-1.

Late bye week:

The Raiders’ bye week comes in Week 10. It’s toward the end of the NFL bye schedule. In recent history, the Raiders had their by weeks earlier in the season, yet, in 2023, it came in week 13. So, this is better when it comes to getting rest earlier. The Raiders will see their schedule breaks come in the second half of the season, which could be helpful. They get a few extra days going into December after the Black Friday game and then get another little break with the Week 15 Monday night game.

Wake up, guys:

The Raiders have five games that start at 10 a.m. on the West Coast. The Raiders have fared poorly in those games over the years. They had five such games last season and went 1-4 (1-2 under Pierce and 0-2 under Josh McDaniels). Four of the 10 a.m. games come in the second half of the season, so the Raiders need to figure this out.

Chiefs on a letdown?

Could the Raiders’ catch a break when they host the Chiefs in Week 8? Kansas City will be coming off a Super Bowl rematch at San Francisco. The Chiefs may be flat after that game. Yet, perhaps not. The Chiefs will likely remember their embarrassment they faced when they lost at home to the Raiders on Christmas Day last season. It turned out to be the last time they lost. So, they may be motivated. And, of course, there’s the fact that the Chiefs are 5-0 all-time at Allegiant Stadium with four wins over the Raiders and the Super Bowl victory over the 49ers.

Finish fast:

The Raiders have an opportunity to finish strong. Their December schedule does not look daunting. Just one of their last five opponents made the playoffs last season and there are three games against NFC South opponents, which is considered the weakest in the NFL. Plus, three of their final four games are at home. They must take advantage.

Not much weather concerns:

The weather gods should be kind to the Raiders’ this season. Their last tricky date is the Black Florida game at Kansas City. Their other late-season trips are to Miami and Tampa Bay (where the humidity issues should dissipate) and a domed game in New Orleans. Pretty reasonable.

Allegiant Takeover?

We all know, in the three seasons, in which fans have been allowed to attend games at Allegiant Stadium, fans from the opposing team have often taken over. The thing about this year is, the Raiders don’t play that many home games against teams with fans that travel well. But they will have to dal with it against Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Kansas City. the truth is, Las Vegas will always be an appealing road trip for opposing fans. It is what it is.

Steelers at Raiders on October 13th holds the top spot for most in-demand game with an average ticket price of $601, per Vivid Seats.
Chiefs at 49ers the following week is second at $587.

Overall, this isn’t too bad of a schedule. It’s pretty basic. It’s time to go out and win. It’s as simple as that.
