Revealed: England are planning a friendly in America next summer

The Football Association are understood to be considering a game Stateside next June, potentially against the USA, who are now managed by Mauricio Pochettino.

Talks over potential opponents and host city for the game are ongoing amid complications over the 2025 international window, but because the next World Cup is being held in the USA, Canada and Mexico the opportunity to play across the Atlantic next year would come as a useful experience.

Next year’s international fixture calendar is up in the air because the World Cup qualification draw is not taking place until Friday, December 13, in Geneva.

Teams will then find out the size of their qualifying groups and if England get fewer fixtures then they may be able to schedule a high-profile friendly in June.

The fixture would give USA boss Mauricio Pochettino a chance to test his side a year ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which they will partially host

In a further complication, England could be involved in Nations League play-off games with another international window scheduled for March, which have also been earmarked for World Cup qualifiers.

Therefore, no final decision has yet been taken on a US friendly but it is a possibility being explored.
