Robbery Victim Forced To Transfer $2,000,000 in Crypto to Four Attackers in Break-and-Enter: Report

Law enforcement agencies in Bangkok are reportedly looking for four Chinese nationals who broke into a luxury house in the Pathum Thani province and forced their victim to transfer millions of dollars in crypto.

Bangkok Post reports that masked suspects, each armed with a gun and knife, broke into the house of 35-year-old Chinese businessman Ke Jibao at 2 AM on Wednesday while he and his wife were asleep.

The gang tied up Ke, his wife and a maid by their hands and feet and ordered Ke to call a relative in China to send them $2 million worth of crypto.

After completing the transfer, the intruders took away the security camera servers with the record of the incident and escaped using the victim’s car. The stolen vehicle is now subject to forensic investigation after it was found abandoned near a power plant at 1:30 PM on the same day.

Ke says he does not know how the intruders came to know his relative in China, but the police say the robbery appears well-planned. The suspects did not bring a vehicle with them so they did not have to show their IDs to the security guards when they entered the housing estate.

In an update, Thai Newsroom reports that a Vietnamese man suspected to be part of the robbery was arrested on Friday. Authorities say that the intruders stole 10 million baht ($57,750) in cash along with the crypto trove.

Police are now investigating whether the robbery was a payback due to Ke incurring debts or a result of a quarrel.
