Romanian side field ileligible player who 'they claimed was deaf mute'

A third-tier club in Romania have been forced to forfeit a match after using a fake player.

Vointa Limpezis, who are bottom of Group Two of Liga III, thought they had secured a vital win when they beat CSM Adjud, though it has been ruled that they did so illegally.

Allegations came that they had fielded an illegible player during the game, with the FRF Disciplinary Commission getting involved.

It was alleged that instead of Romanian Cosmin Togan playing for Vointa, it was instead a South American national playing, and it was later requested that he was identified by the officials at half time.

A bizarre excuse was then given for why he could not be spoken to - that he was deaf-mute and illiterate, according to The Sun.

A Romanian third-division side have been punished for fielding ineligible player who 'they claimed couldn't identify himself because he was deaf mute and illiterate'

An ACM representative explained how suspicions during the game led to him filing a complaint, that was then followed up on almost immediately.

'At one point, during the match, I heard that the player with number 21 from Limpezis was speaking in a foreign language,' he said. 'On the score sheet, however, there was a Romanian footballer, who met the Under-19 criteria, born in 2005.

'At half time, I filed an appeal, and the referee requested that the respective player come to the booth for identification. The officials from Vointa explained that the footballer is deaf mute, so it was not possible to talk to him.

'And when he was only asked to write his name on a piece of paper, it was impossible, under the argument that he doesn't even know how to write.'

Limpezis president Ionita Dedu revealed that his club have appealed the decision and appeared to point towards a miscommunication for the reason things went south.

'I understood that the federation self-reported that we would use two non-EU players,' he said. 'It is about a Colombian and a Nigerian, who would have an American passport, or something like that.

'I can't tell you exactly. We have already appealed'.

Vointa Limpezis have been deducted six points and fined £369, according to a report - picture, Romania national team fans
