ADT's further integration with Google Nest has brought a new ADT Plus platform and updated security kit in recent months, including the new Trusted Neighbor technology for face ID recognition, powered by the same AI at work in Google's familiar face package in Nest Aware plans. Now the security company has a large 60% discount for anyone interested in adopting the new ADT Plus and Trusted Neighbor home security system.
The discount applies only to new customers, but if it's been several years since you've used ADT services, you may be able to qualify. Trusted Neighbor and the professional monitoring plan ($45 per month) are both required. However, you can choose between the Self Setup option or a professional installation option. The DIY version requires only a $719 for the full discount to kick in, while a pro-installed system needs to be at least $1,169 in total. The discount can't exceed $750 in savings.
As is tradition with discounts like these, it also requires at least a 36-month monitoring contract with cancellation fees applying if you want to stop early. Three years is a lot to ask for many homeowners, especially at those high prices when you can find professional monitoring for much lower subscriptions. But if you don't mind being locked in, this deal is one of the best we've seen from ADT.
Now about that Trusted Neighbor feature: Part of it is a system feature you can use to send notifications to certain people and create an open "disarmed" window at certain times of the day so that family or friends can easily access your home. The system allows you to program specific access windows for specific person profiles too. That's pretty typical stuff for today's security systems (Apple just added a DIY version of it to the Apple Home app for iOS 18), and it's what ADT focuses on when introducing Trusted Neighbor to new customers.
However, Trusted Neighbor can also tap into Google's face recognition technology used on ADT-integrated devices like the Google Nest Doorbell or Nest Cam. It's a more advanced version of AI object detection that not only recognizes humans but can also save face profiles and recognize individual faces.
That allows for processes like the system recognizing a family member and automatically unlocking the door for them when they approach. It also raises a whole lot of privacy questions. No matter how well you know your neighbor, saving their face in your security system may be a step too far for a lot of people, especially those sensitive about online security. Google's face data is designed to stay encrypted until it's needed, but it's still out of your hands and in the cloud when you create a profile.
However, Trusted Neighbor doesn't require you to use face recognition or even have a Nest camera. You can stick to timed or personal access options. If you decide to use Trusted Neighbor's full capabilities, it won't cost anything extra beyond the monthly monitoring fee.
