Scott McTominay scores 1st goal for Napoli after Romelu Lukaku assist

Scott McTominay scored the first goal of his Napoli career on Thursday night in a 5-0 victory over Palermo in the Coppa Italia.

This was only the 27-year-old Scotland midfielder's third appearance for Napoli since he joined from Manchester United for £25.7million last month.

His goal arrived in the 77th minute following an assist by one of his former United team-mates.

Romelu Lukaku - who was based at Old Trafford between 2017 and 2019 - displayed impressive pace and strength to get the better of Pietro Ceccaroni, before pulling the ball back for McTominay to fire home from 10 yards.

McTominay had previously found the net 29 times in 255 appearances for United.

Palermo, now based in Serie B, were no match for Antonio Conte's Scudetto hopefuls on Thursday.

It was 2-0 inside 12 minutes thanks to an early brace for Cyril Ngonge.

Juan Jesus made it 3-0 late in the first half before Palermo's Aljosa Vasic was sent off in the 58th minute.

David Neres then scored Napoli's fourth of the night with 20 minutes remaining, shortly before Lukaku and McTominay were brought on as substitutes.

The ex-United duo had been on the field for less than 60 seconds before they combined for goal No 5.

Lukaku has now featured in four matches for Napoli since his £30m switch from Chelsea this summer.

The 31-year-old Belgian has so far scored two goals for his current employers.
