Stacks to bring Bitcoin to Aptos network through sBTC integration

Key Takeaways

  • Stacks is integrating Bitcoin into the Aptos ecosystem, allowing its use across dApps built on Aptos.
  • The integration aims to combine Bitcoin's security with Aptos' scalability for innovative blockchain solutions.

Bitcoin (BTC) layer-2 Stacks is integrating Bitcoin into the Aptos ecosystem. This integration will allow BTC to be used across decentralized applications (dApps) built on Aptos powered by the Move programming language.

The Bitcoin integration will happen through sBTC, a 1:1 BTC-backed asset, which will enable Bitcoin transactions onto layer-2 networks like Stacks. This integration will make sBTC accessible to all builders and users on Aptos, creating new possibilities for Bitcoin’s functionality.

“The integration of sBTC on Aptos reduces the barriers between the world’s most adopted digital asset and the internet-grade, real-world applications that Bitcoiners have been eagerly awaiting,” Mitchell Cuevas, Executive Director at the Stacks Foundation, said.

The integration aims to combine Bitcoin’s security with Aptos’ scalability, enabling developers to create innovative solutions in gaming, AI, social platforms, DeFi protocols, and NFT marketplaces on the Aptos Network.

“This integration instantly makes Bitcoin highly capable beyond a store of value, allowing for its use in complex smart contracts and decentralized applications,” Bashar Lazaar, Head of Ecosystem and Partnerships at Aptos Foundation, stated.

Current Bitcoin holders will be able to participate in a wide range of applications on the Aptos Network, enhancing their asset utility within the ecosystem.
