The New York Mets have signed right-hander Julio Teheran to a $2.5 million contract, bolstering their depleted rotation amidst a string of injuries and inclement weather.

Teheran, a former nemesis for the Mets during his nine seasons with the Atlanta Braves, boasts 10 wins against the team, second only to Gio Gonzalez. His 2.98 ERA over 28 starts and one relief appearance from 2011 to 2019 has made him a formidable opponent.

Despite a shoulder injury sidelining him for most of 2021, Teheran has clawed his way back to the Majors. After spending time in various independent leagues, he joined the Brewers in 2022 and opted out of his contract with the Orioles this spring.

Teheran's arrival fills a glaring hole in the Mets' rotation, which has been severely impacted by injuries. With Senga, Megill, Kranick, Peterson, and Lucchesi all sidelined, the team was facing a shortage of reliable arms.

Teheran is expected to make his debut against his former team, the Braves, on Monday. His recent outing in a Grapefruit League game suggests he is ready to contribute, albeit with a limited workload initially.

Teheran's addition to the rotation gives the Mets a much-needed boost. He joins José Quintana as the most accomplished Colombian-born pitchers in Major League history, with a combined 173 victories. Their experience and talent will be invaluable as the Mets navigate the challenges of the upcoming season.
