Ten Hag: Man United stars must show right attitude if they're left out

Sancho was missing from the 20-man party to face Fulham in United’s opening game after returning to the club this summer following his fall-out with Ten Hag.

The row stemmed from Sancho’s omission from the squad at Arsenal last season when the England star claimed to have been made ‘a scapegoat’ by his manager.

Although Ten Hag and Sancho have drawn a line under the issue, there is still a possibility the England winger could leave this summer amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

Asked if Sancho could return to the squad at Brighton on Saturday lunchtime, Ten Hag was non-committal but stressed the importance of his players accepting his decision if they are left out.

Erik ten Hag says his Man United players must show the right attitude if they're left out

‘We will see,’ he said. ‘We have a squad, and I hope we will have a squad with double positioning when we go into the season after September 1. That means you can’t select all the players but you need them all throughout the season. We have to manage it.

‘The attitude of the players is very important. Sometimes they will be disappointed and they have to deal with it. You win as a squad. The prizes are decided next May and until then we need all the players in the squad and highly motivated. That is not an expectation, that is a demand on the squad.’

Ten Hag confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof will miss the trip to the South Coast.

‘Tyrell Malacia, Rasmus Hojlund, they’re not available. Luke Shaw, of course,’ he added. ‘(Lindelof) has an issue on his toe, hopefully he can return quickly but not available for the weekend.’
