The Wait for iOS 18 Is Almost Over. Here's When You Can Download It

Apple announced the iPhone 16 lineup, the new Apple Watch Series 10 and more at its event on Sept. 9. (CNET already got hands-on with the Apple Watch Series 10 and new Watch Ultra 2 color.) The tech giant also announced online that it will release iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system, on Monday, Sept. 16 -- which is when I predicted it would be released

It's not clear what time the update will be available, but historically Apple releases updates around 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. Once Apple releases the update, you might experience slow download times since a lot of people will likely be downloading the update as well.

Apple announced iOS 18 at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, and developers and beta testers have been able to download the beta software for months. The operating system is set to bring new features to all iPhones, like ways to customize your home screen, RCS messaging and more.

The operating system will also bring Apple Intelligence to some iPhones later this year. Apple already released a developer version of iOS 18.1, which brings Apple Intelligence features to developers.
