Costco groceries just get cheaper. The big box retailer becomes the latest major US grocery chain to announce price cuts over the past several months. The membership-based megaretailer revealed in an earnings call last week that it had slashed prices on many of its signature Kirkland items. It's a sign that cooling inflation is trickling down to places where people need it most.

Earlier this year, Aldi announced a flurry of pre-summer price cuts to more than 250 essential groceries. Shortly after, Target revealed price cuts on more than 5,000 frequently shopped items. Costco, already known for its low prices on bulk groceries, becomes the third major retailer to make a major changes to its food pricing, a welcome relief to American families trying to keep to a budget.

In Monday's call, Costco Chief Financial Officer Gary Millerchip mentioned the price of Kirkland products. These included macadamia nuts, which fell from $19 to $14, Spanish olive oil 3-liter bottles (down from $39 to $35), standard foil (from $32 to $30) and laundry packs (from $20 to $19). Millerchip also noted that Kirkland Signature Boneless Chicken Tenders had fallen by as much as 13%.
