van der Vaart names ex-Premier League star who needs 'kick up butt'

Rafael van der Vaart has claimed that a former Premier League star needs a 'kick up the butt'.

Former Tottenham and Real Madrid midfielder van der Vaart believes the player has only shown 20 per cent of what he is capable of.

In addition, he feels that the player should have reached Kylian Mbappe's level 'a long time ago'.

Van der Vaart stated that the individual has 'incredible qualities' but says that he hasn't shown them enough.

While Mbappe has established himself as one of the standout players in world football, van der Vaart believes that this player could also have hit those heights.

Van der Vaart criticised Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.

Van der Vaart told Ran: 'From my point of view, he only shows 20 per cent of his incredible qualities.

'I hope he wakes up, that someone gives him a kick in the butt.

'You have to imagine what would happen if he really stepped on the gas. He's 28 years old now. I think he should have been at Kylian Mbappe's level a long time ago.'

Sane is closing in on a return to action, having not featured so far this season due to injury.

He has won three Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich and previously won the Premier League twice with Manchester City.

In addition, Sane has 65 caps for Germany and featured at Euro 2024.

Since joining Bayern in 2020, Sane has made 175 appearances and has scored 48 goals, while he has provided 50 assists.

Injuries have hampered Sane's progress at times, but he will be determined to show what he is capable of when he returns to action.
