Wesley Fofana laughs as he shuts down fan asking if he'd join United

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana offered one Manchester United fan a two-word answer when he asked whether he'd switch Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford.

Fans had spotted Fofana at a standstill in traffic as he left Stamford Bridge on Sunday night, after Chelsea had beaten Newcastle 2-1.

'You coming United?' the fan asked, as he walked alongside the player's car.

'No, never.' The Frenchman replied, wagging his finger with a laugh.

The fan quickly asked 'why not?', but Fofana remained tight-lipped as he drove off.

Fofana was all smiles as he offered the fan a two-worded answer, who spoke to him in his car

The exchange was originally posted on social media platform TikTok, but reshared on X where users were quick to offer their hilarious takes on why Fofana would 'never' don the red of United – with many pointing out the chasm in standing between the two clubs.

'Nah, United are so bad,' one fan mocked, followed by a string of laughing emojis.

Another took aim at United's new summer signing, centre back Matthijs de Ligt: 'They are tired of De Ligt already', they wrote.

One user did not hold back on club nor player writing, 'bro saw the state of their physio room and thought nah' – a slightly cruel jibe at the injury issues Fofana's suffered since joining the west London club, which have included an ACL issue that sidelined him for a most of last season.

Fofana signed for Chelsea from Leicester in August 2022, for a reported initial fee of £70 million, plus £5 million in add-ons.

The then-21-year-old was one of the first signings made by new owner Todd Boehly, on what was considered at the time an extraordinarily long seven-year contract.

The practice for tying players down to lengthy contracts has become commonplace at Stamford Bridge under Boehly's reign.

Only in August did the talismanic forward Cole Palmer extend an already long contract to stay at the club til the summer of 2023.

Chelsea have more players than any other club in the top five leagues – eight – on seven-year-plus contracts.

Alongside Fofana and Palmer, big names on these contracts include Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Mykhailo Mudryk, Pedro Neto and Nicolas Jackson.
