An amateur soccer player will appear in court in September after he was charged with common assault in an alleged incident which involved a game-day referee.
The man, 34, allegedly chased the whistle blower off the pitch and then allegedly attempted to kick down a door after he was earlier sent off during an All Age division three match between Harrington United and Narellan Rangers at Nott Oval in Sydney's south-west.
Numerous stunned witnesses filmed the alleged shocking incident, with the player in question from Harrington United.
'About 1.15pm on Sunday 25 August, officers from Camden Police Area Command responded to reports of a match official being threatened after a soccer match between two adult male teams at a sports oval on Elyard Street, Narellan,' a NSW Police spokesperson confirmed in a statement.
'Officers escorted a match official from the area and dispersed a crowd which had gathered. There were no reports of any injuries.
'About 10pm on Monday 26 August, a 34-year-old man was charged with common assault and issued with a court attendance notice to appear before Picton Local Court on Thursday 26 September.'

Macarthur Football Association general manager Paul Bertolissio stated counselling has since been offered to the referee and his two assistants.
Daily Mail Australia understands one of the terrified linesmen was only 14 - and he reportedly expressed his fear about being involved in the sport ever again.
A Macarthur Football spokesman told News Corp the association planned to launch a detailed investigation into the incident.
'Both teams have been stood down pending an investigation through our judicial system,' he said.
'We are waiting for incident reports and referee reports, and guilty parties will be served with what's coming to them....any incidents that come to us we treat seriously, and will deal with it in a swift manner.
'There's no excuse for it…when we see something like this happen we're not happy about it and we want to stamp it out.'
Harrington United president Ray Zammit also indicated the club will take strong action on the alleged perpetrator.
'We clamp down very hard,' he said. 'It's going through the process now and once that's done, we know how to deal with it as a club.....[and] we will deal with it very harshly.'
