British lawmaker Jess Asato has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk's xAI, alleging that its Grok AI platform was used to generate fake sexualized images of her.
Asato, a member of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Labour Party, stated that Grok created deepfake pornography and sexualized content that harmed thousands. She called the AI's capabilities a "design choice" by its creators, not an accident or misuse.
Grok, distributed through X, is already under regulatory scrutiny in multiple countries. In January, xAI restricted image editing in Grok and blocked users from generating revealing images in jurisdictions where it's illegal. However, Reuters found in February that Grok still produced sexualized images even when users noted lack of consent.
Asato's office reported that after she condemned Grok in January, users created and shared fake images of her in a bikini and a video depicting her being chloroformed and prepared for sexual assault.
This follows a March lawsuit by Baltimore against xAI over similar issues. Asato's claim, filed at the High Court in England, cites breaches of data protection law and misuse of private information. She seeks damages, a formal acknowledgment of illegality, and an order for xAI to cease all such activity.
xAI has not yet responded to requests for comment.
