British Olympic sprinter CJ Ujah, who already lost a silver medal over a doping violation, now faces criminal charges in a cryptocurrency fraud case.

UK police charged the 32-year-old with involvement in an organized crime group that allegedly stole over £300,000 from a single victim through seed phrase theft and impersonation calls. Ujah was released on bail and is due in court on May 28, 2026.

Ujah was part of Great Britain's 4x100m relay team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The team's silver medal was stripped in 2022 after he tested positive for a banned substance.

The case highlights a growing epidemic: seed phrase theft through fraudulent calls accounted for roughly 20% of UK crypto thefts in 2025, with total losses estimated at £500 million.
