Circle has launched the USDC Bridge, a new platform designed to enable users to transfer USD Coin (USDC) natively across at least 17 blockchains. This innovation eliminates the need for wrapped or synthetic tokens, offering a more predictable and transparent transfer mechanism. The bridge utilizes a burn-and-mint system, streamlining cross-chain transactions.

The USDC Bridge is built upon Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), first introduced in April 2023. This protocol has already facilitated substantial stablecoin transfers daily and aims to enhance the interoperability of the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem. Previously, cross-chain bridges have posed challenges for users, contributing to complexity and potentially hindering crypto adoption.
The new bridge supports USDC transfers across numerous Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible blockchains, including Ethereum, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, and Polygon. Circle's CCTP also accommodates non-EVM compatible blockchains like Solana, Sui, and Aptos. Despite the new release, Circle recently faced a class-action lawsuit concerning the handling of USDC following a protocol exploit.
