The FBI is warning Tron blockchain users about a fraudulent token impersonating the agency to extract personal information.

Users received on-chain messages claiming their wallets were “under investigation” and urging them to complete a fake anti-money laundering verification to avoid asset freezes.

The bureau urged extreme caution and advised against submitting any identifying details to websites linked to the token. Victims are directed to file reports with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

This scam exploits urgency tactics common in crypto phishing, which contributed to $9.3 billion in reported losses in 2024-a 66% year-over-year increase.

Notably, the FBI previously deployed its own “trap token,” NexFundAI, in 2024 to ensnare fraudsters involved in pump-and-dump schemes, leading to at least 18 arrests.
