Grayscale identifies Zcash as a leading challenger to Bitcoin in the digital currency sector, citing its privacy features as a key differentiator. Bitcoin dominates with 90% of the $1.6 trillion crypto currency segment, while Zcash holds just 0.3%.

Zcash enables shielded transactions that hide sender, receiver, and amount-capabilities Bitcoin lacks. Grayscale argues this gives ZEC a structural edge in privacy-sensitive use cases. Adoption of Zcash’s shielding tech is rising, along with new investment in wallets and mining.
If Zcash captures 5% of the sector, its valuation could grow 18x from its current $4 billion market cap. The projection assumes no overall market expansion-only a shift in allocation.

Grayscale cautions that ZEC is smaller and more volatile than Bitcoin, carrying higher risk. Other investors, including Arthur Hayes and Qiao Wang, have also expressed bullish views on Zcash's asymmetric upside. ZEC traded at $232.93 at press time.
