Robert Lighthizer, former U.S. trade representative, has resigned from the board of Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG). The departure, effective Friday, was disclosed in an SEC filing.

Lighthizer, who was instrumental in imposing tariffs on Chinese imports and renegotiating NAFTA during Donald Trump's presidency, stated his resignation was not due to disagreements with TMTG management or the board.

TMTG, known for its Truth Social platform, has faced challenges with user growth and competition. The company is now pivoting, agreeing to merge with fusion energy firm TAE Technologies in an all-stock deal valued at over $6 billion. This strategic shift aims to focus on developing utility-scale power plants to meet rising electricity demand, including that from AI data centers.
