NEW DELHI: India’s oil ministry announced a 25% increase in domestic jet fuel prices on April 1, citing the Middle East war and soaring global energy costs.

The rise affects aviation turbine fuel (ATF), a major expense for airlines. The Ministry of Petroleum stated that without intervention, ATF prices could have jumped over 100%.

State-run Indian Oil Corporation reported an 8.5% ATF price increase in Delhi, with similar hikes in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.

To protect travelers, the government shielded domestic airlines from the full price surge, while foreign routes will absorb the complete increase.

Commercial LPG prices also rose by approximately 200 rupees per 19kg cylinder in key cities. Domestic household LPG remains unchanged.

India, the world’s fourth-largest LNG buyer and second-largest LPG importer, relies heavily on Middle Eastern supplies.
