Kohl’s, based in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, has maintained its store count at 1,150, following the closure of 27 stores in early 2025. CEO Michael Bender stated that over 90% of stores are profitable and the company will focus on optimizing existing locations rather than expanding or closing more.

The retailer is introducing new strategies to boost sales, including adding MAC Cosmetics to 850 locations, expanding affordable kids' clothing lines, and launching impulse deals with items under $10.

Kohl’s reported a profit of $125 million for the quarter ending Jan. 31, 2026, up from $48 million the previous year. However, sales dropped 3.9% for the quarter and 4% for the year, with projections for flat or slightly declining sales in 2026.
