Mitsubishi Materials will halt copper concentrate processing and shut down its Onahama Smelter and Refinery by the end of March 2027.
The Japanese industrial group announced the decision Wednesday, citing an expected impairment loss of 21 billion yen-approximately $132 million-to be recorded in the fourth quarter of its current fiscal year. The charge primarily affects fixed assets tied to the smelting facility.
