Quantum computing has rapidly transitioned from theoretical science to a critical financial sector. Global venture capital investment reached a record $3.9 billion across approximately 125 deals in 2025, according to PitchBook data.
The year’s largest transaction was PsiQuantum’s $1 billion Series E round in September, led by BlackRock affiliates, Temasek, and Baillie Gifford. Nvidia’s venture arm, NVentures, also participated. The funding valued PsiQuantum at $7 billion post-money.
The final two quarters of 2025 saw concentrated activity, with $1.6 billion deployed in Q3 and an additional $1.5 billion in Q4.
BlackRock’s strategy extends beyond direct investment. The firm is analyzing the risks quantum computing poses to digital asset security, specifically regarding elliptic curve cryptography, which secures major blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum. A sufficiently powerful quantum computer could theoretically break this encryption.
In response, developers are advancing post-quantum cryptography, with some blockchain projects already integrating standardized algorithms. BlackRock further expanded its market access by launching the iShares Quantum Computing UCITS ETF in December 2025.
