A Wells Fargo customer in Texas says the bank refused to reimburse her after scammers drained $3,300 from her account through the payments platform Zelle.
Ashlie Rinehart received a call on April 1st from a number appearing as Wells Fargo on caller ID. The caller claimed to work for Wells Fargo's fraud department and told her her account had been hacked.
The caller instructed Rinehart to enter a series of numbers, granting access to her Zelle account. Two transactions totaling $3,300 were taken.
Rinehart reported the scam to a Wells Fargo branch and the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Fox 26 says Wells Fargo denied her claim three times, stating she authorized the access.
Fox 26 notes Wells Fargo has reversed some denied scam claims, but remains firm when customers follow scammer instructions and send money themselves.
