U.S. health officials have identified a specific food source in a large multi-state parasitic infection outbreak. Shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell is linked to the contamination.

The outbreak is caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. Since May 1, more than 1,600 confirmed cases have been reported. The infections span five states: Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Michigan. Michigan is currently the hardest-hit state.

Officials continue to investigate whether other food sources may also be involved in the outbreak.
