Patients with prostate cancer consistently prioritize how treatment affects their daily life over clinical outcomes like cure rates or recurrence prevention, according to findings presented at the European Association of Urology 2026 Congress.

Dr. Pani Nasseri of Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, led the award-winning study-a national online survey of 2,700 cancer patients conducted October 22-November 5, 2024. Prostate cancer patients ranked daily-life impact higher than those with breast, lung, or skin cancer-and cited treatment cost as more decisive.

Success rates mattered less to prostate cancer patients than to others. Researchers concluded that treatment decisions must be personalized-factoring in age, education level, and cancer type-to enable true shared decision-making and patient-centered care.
