Argentina pulled off one of the greatest World Cup comebacks, defeating Egypt 3-2 after trailing 2-0 in the second half.

Egypt struck first with a Yasser Ibrahim header in the 15th minute. Mostafa Ziko doubled the lead in the 67th minute, putting the defending champions in deep trouble.

Argentina's rally began with a Cristian Romero goal in the 79th minute, assisted by Lionel Messi. Five minutes later, Messi scored himself, becoming the first player to score in nine consecutive World Cup matches.

The comeback was completed in stoppage time when Enzo Fernández headed in the winner from a Lautaro Martinez pass.

This is the second straight match Argentina has avoided a major upset, having needed extra time to beat Cape Verde in the previous round.

Argentina now advances to face the winner of Colombia and Switzerland.
