21-year-old defender Alex Freeman scored for the United States in a 2-0 victory over Australia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Freeman, born in Plantation, Florida, turned professional with Orlando City SC before moving to La Liga side Villarreal CF.

Freeman’s father is Antonio Freeman, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver. The 6’2” defender chose soccer over football, using his physical profile at right-back, right winger, and center-back. He has 19 caps and three goals for the USMNT since debuting in June 2025 against Türkiye.

During the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Freeman started all six matches as the US finished runners-up. His inclusion in Mauricio Pochettino’s 26-man World Cup roster was widely expected, reflecting a rapid ascent from Orlando’s homegrown system to the international stage.
