Democratic Republic of Congo secured qualification to the World Cup finals with a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in their inter-confederation playoff Tuesday. Axel Tuanzebe scored the decisive goal in extra time during the 100th minute at Estadio Guadalajara.

The former England under-21 international's goal came from a corner kick, though officials required over a minute to confirm no handball occurred before awarding the score. DR Congo dominated the fast-paced match despite limited clear scoring opportunities.

This marks the second time DR Congo has qualified for the World Cup, returning to the tournament after a 52-year absence since their 1974 appearance when the country was known as Zaire.
