Manninger, recognized for his professionalism and composure, had a distinguished career spanning 14 teams across Europe. He began his professional journey with Red Bull Salzburg and notably played for clubs including Juventus, Udinese, and Augsburg.

During his tenure at Arsenal, Manninger served as a reliable understudy to David Seaman. He made significant contributions, including deputizing during the 1997-98 season, where he played a crucial role in Arsenal's FA Cup victory over West Ham on penalties and a memorable league win against Manchester United. His performance in March 1998 earned him Premier League Player of the Month honors.
