Chennai Super Kings' IPL season has been dealt a fresh blow with teenaged batter Ayush Mhatre tearing his hamstring. The 18-year-old, who has been a prolific scorer for the five-time champions, sustained the injury during Saturday's defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Mhatre was seen clutching his hamstring after scoring 30 off 12 balls and required extensive on-field treatment. "Obviously a hamstring tear. I don't know how bad it is," stated Chennai batting coach Mike Hussey. "It looks pretty bad, unfortunately. And he's going to be a big, big loss because he's been in really nice touch for us."

Mhatre has accumulated 201 runs across six innings with a strike rate exceeding 177. Hussey acknowledged the loss but also highlighted the opportunity for other players on the squad. Chennai is currently seventh in the 10-team league and faces Mumbai Indians next.
