Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno has ignited controversy with remarks suggesting that winning is not a primary concern for fans, according to data compiled by the team. Moreno stated that fans prioritize affordability, safety, and a positive ballpark experience above a winning team.

These comments have drawn a strong rebuke from the Major League Baseball Players’ Association (MLBPA). Bruce Meyer, head of the MLBPA, stated that players are competitors and expect owners to share that same drive. The Angels have struggled to achieve consistent success, failing to reach the playoffs since 2014, despite having stars like Mike Trout and formerly Shohei Ohtani.

Moreno, whose net worth is estimated at $5 billion, indicated that while payroll might increase, the focus remains on attendance and fan experience, particularly targeting mothers making family decisions. He noted that "purists" care about winning, but the broader fan base seeks entertainment and affordability.
