Kansas City, Missouri - Argentina has advanced to the World Cup semi-finals after a dramatic 3-1 victory over Switzerland in extra time. The win, which set up a semi-final clash with England, came from goals by Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez in the final minutes of the match.

Argentina took an early lead through Alexis Mac Allister's header. Switzerland, down to 10 men after Breel Embolo received a red card, fought back to equalize through Dan Ndoye. The match appeared headed for a penalty shootout until Álvarez scored a spectacular long-range goal in the 112th minute. Martínez then sealed the victory.

The win keeps alive Argentina's bid to become the first team to successfully defend the World Cup title since Brazil in 1962. It ended Switzerland's run to their first quarter-final since 1954.
