Chicago Fire manager Gregg Berhalter was visibly emotional at Los Angeles Stadium. He watched from the stands as his son Sebastian scored his first World Cup goal for the United States in a group stage match against Türkiye.

Sebastian also provided an assist in the game. His performance comes after a strong start to his 2026 MLS season with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Berhalters are now the second father-son pair from the US to both play in a World Cup, following Claudio and Gio Reyna. Gregg Berhalter played in the 2002 and 2006 tournaments but famously had a goal disallowed in the 2002 quarterfinal. Sebastian’s goal in the 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, officially puts a World Cup goal on the family's record.
