Coach Vincent Kompany declared Bayern Munich have earned the right to be confident after defeating Real Madrid 2-1 in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Bayern remain unbeaten in their last 14 games across all competitions as they lead the race to defend their Bundesliga title. The German side now hosts Real Madrid on April 15 for the second leg.

"Most important for us is to just continue our momentum. They're going to give us a tough game," Kompany told TNT Sports.

Bayern's last victory against Real came in 2017, though that encounter ended with Real advancing after scoring twice in extra time. Bayern have not defeated Real over two legs since the 2012 Champions League semi-finals.

"A lot of respect for the opponent but also a lot of confidence as well, because I feel we've earned the right to be confident," Kompany added.
