Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is fighting for his college career after admitting to placing nearly $90,000 in bets over the past four years, including wagers on his own Indiana Hoosiers team. His legal team has filed for an injunction in Lubbock, Texas, arguing the NCAA is weaponizing his gambling addiction rather than supporting his recovery.
According to court documents, Sorsby used multiple betting apps like FanDuel and PrizePicks, transferring at least $60,000 to friends who placed bets for him. The most damaging bets occurred during the 2022 season when he placed 40 wagers on Indiana, his own team, while a redshirt scout-team player.
Sorsby claims he only bet on Indiana to win and stopped before playing in his debut. Despite a 35-day stint at a rehabilitation clinic in Arizona, the NCAA has deemed him ineligible for the 2026 season. Texas Tech is advocating for a two-game suspension, arguing the punishment is too harsh for an athlete struggling with addiction.
