BOURNEMOUTH, England, March 20 : Manchester United manager Michael Carrick criticized the officiating in a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth after his team were denied a penalty but conceded one in similar circumstances.
With United leading 2-1, Amad Diallo appeared to be pulled and shoved in the box, but a VAR review found no clear contact for a penalty. Minutes later, referee Stuart Attwell awarded a penalty after a similar incident involving defender Harry Maguire.
"I think they're both penalties and it's a massive moment in the game," Carrick said. "I don't understand how you can give one and not the other."
United failed to capitalize on the missed opportunity, dropping two points in the draw. Carrick praised his team's resilience after Maguire was sent off.
United remains third in the table with 55 points, 15 behind leaders Arsenal. Carrick, interim head coach since January, said the international break won't disrupt the team's momentum.
