Cole Caufield has become the first Montreal Canadiens player in 36 years to score 50 goals in a single season.
Caufield reached the milestone Thursday with a wrist shot against Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, igniting a frenzied Bell Centre crowd.
He joins an elite group of Canadiens legends to achieve this feat, including Guy Lafleur and Maurice Richard. Stéphane Richer was the last to accomplish this in 1990.
The American winger's achievement marks a significant return to form, with 29 goals in his last 31 games. His 50 goals include 12 game-winners, contributing to the Canadiens' strong season.
