Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa will miss the remainder of the season after tearing a tendon in his left ankle during batting practice on Tuesday.

Correa, 31, said he felt a "pop" while swinging in the cage before the Astros' 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He will undergo surgery and faces a six-to-eight-month recovery.

The loss is a major blow to the scuffling Astros, who are 15-22 on the season. Correa was hitting .279 with three home runs and 16 RBI.

"I couldn't put weight on it," Correa said. "Right away, I knew something was wrong."

The Astros already had 13 players on the injured list, including ace Hunter Brown, closer Josh Hader, and center fielder Jake Meyers.

Correa began his career with Houston, spent three and a half seasons with the Minnesota Twins, and was reacquired at last year's trade deadline.
