India's coach Gautam Gambhir has lauded Sanju Samson's pivotal 97 not out, a performance that guided India to a semi-final berth in the Twenty20 World Cup.
Samson's unbeaten innings saw India successfully chase a target of 196 against the West Indies with four balls to spare in a must-win match.
"He's a world-class player," Gambhir stated, emphasizing Samson's ability to perform under pressure. "When the team needed him the most... he showed his full potential."
Samson's knock was the highest individual score by an Indian in a T20 World Cup chase. Gambhir noted Samson's natural talent, stating he played "very normal cricketing shots" without forcing the ball.
Gambhir also highlighted the importance of collective effort, crediting Shivam Dube's late cameo as equally vital to the team's success. India is set to face England in the semi-final.
