The Czech Republic qualified for the World Cup by defeating Denmark 3-1 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw through extra time.

Pavel Sulc gave the Czechs an early 3-minute lead with a stunning first-time strike. Denmark equalized in the 72nd minute through Joachim Andersen's header.

Both teams scored in extra time, with Czech captain Krejci and Denmark's Kasper Hogh finding the net to force penalties.

Michal Sadilek converted the winning penalty, sending Czech Republic to their first World Cup since 2006. Denmark struggled in the shootout as Rasmus Hojlund hit the bar and other attempts went awry.

The Czechs will face Mexico, South Africa and South Korea in Group A of the North American tournament starting in June. Co-hosts include the United States and Canada.

Coach Miroslav Koubek, 74, guided the team after taking over following disappointing results under former manager Ivan Hasek, including a loss to Faroe Islands.
