Canada's national team captain Alphonso Davies will likely miss the World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 due to a hamstring injury suffered during a Champions League semifinal with Bayern Munich, head coach Jesse Marsch said Monday.
Marsch confirmed the left back is expected to play at some point during the tournament, but not in the first match. Davies was included in a 32-man training camp roster but will not join the team until the eve of a friendly against Uzbekistan on June 1.
The 24-year-old has been plagued by injuries, including an ACL tear in March 2025 that sidelined him for nearly a year. Canada's official World Cup roster will be announced Friday.
