Danish footballer Christian Eriksen is recovering at home after collapsing during an international friendly against Ukraine in Odense on Sunday. The 34-year-old Wolfsburg midfielder dropped to the ground clutching his chest, prompting officials to abandon the match. Eriksen remained conscious throughout.

In a statement, the player reassured fans the episode was different from his 2021 cardiac arrest, when he collapsed during a European Championship match. Eriksen, who had a pacemaker fitted after that incident, said he was already feeling good.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen sent her warmest thoughts to Eriksen and those affected. Team physician Morten Boesen confirmed the pacemaker responded as designed and that the federation is closely monitoring the player and staff.
