France's Kylian Mbappé has become the all-time leading goal scorer at the FIFA World Cup. The 27-year-old striker netted twice in France's 6-4 loss to England in the third-place match, bringing his career tournament total to 22 goals.

This achievement surpasses Argentina's Lionel Messi, who has 21 World Cup goals. Messi is set to play in the final against Spain.

Mbappé won the Golden Boot for the 2026 tournament with 10 goals. He scored four in his first World Cup in 2018 and eight in 2022.

"It's good in terms of legacy, but today it's not the first thing on my mind," Mbappé said, adding he would have preferred to be playing in the final.
