PARIS, April 15: France forward Hugo Ekitike has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and will miss the upcoming World Cup. The injury occurred Tuesday during Liverpool's Champions League match against Paris St Germain.
Ekitike, 23, was seen pointing to his Achilles as medical staff attended to him before being carried off on a stretcher at Anfield. Liverpool lost the match 2-0, exiting the competition with a 4-0 aggregate defeat.
The forward has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season since his transfer to Liverpool. The World Cup is scheduled to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
