France striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the World Cup after rupturing his Achilles tendon. The injury occurred during Liverpool's Champions League match against Paris St Germain.

Ekitike was carried off the pitch on a stretcher. Manager Didier Deschamps confirmed the severity of the injury, stating it will prevent Ekitike from finishing the season with Liverpool and participating in the World Cup.

The 23-year-old joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt and has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season. He has also netted two international goals in eight appearances for France, having made his debut in September.

Deschamps described Ekitike's absence as a "huge blow" for both the player and the national team. France is set to compete in Group I of the World Cup, which begins June 11.

The injury is also a significant setback for Liverpool, who are vying for a top-five spot in the Premier League to secure a Champions League place next season.
