The San Francisco Giants lost 7-1 to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, dropping to 2-4 on the season as tensions flared on the field.

Giants third baseman Matt Chapman made a difficult off-balance throw to first baseman Casey Schmitt in the fifth inning after fielding a chopper from Xander Bogaerts. The throw appeared catchable but glanced off Schmitt's glove, allowing a runner to score and extend the Padres' lead to 2-0.

During the mound conference, Chapman appeared to mouth "Catch the f---ing ball" to Schmitt. Both players were credited with errors on the play.

After the game, both players said they had cleared the air. Chapman explained it was "heat of the moment" and emphasized they're all brothers working toward the same goal.

"We're all brothers here. It's the heat of the moment," Chapman told reporters. Schmitt said he wasn't mad and called Chapman "my guy."

Chapman went 0-for-4 at the plate while Schmitt was 0-for-3 in the loss.
