England faced a stunning early World Cup exit against DR Congo. The underdog took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute through Brian Cipenga.

England struggled to break down the defense until captain Harry Kane delivered. He scored twice in the final 21 minutes at Atlanta Stadium.

His header in the 75th minute tied the game. Kane then struck the winner with a powerful right-footed shot into the top corner.

The goals are Kane's 83rd and 84th for England. He now has 13 World Cup goals, surpassing Pelé's record.

"It was just about pounding the rock," Kane said. "We have hero moments, and for me it was the day."

England advances to face Mexico in Mexico City on Sunday. The team had previously only won one World Cup match after conceding first, the 1966 final.
