Eddie Howe, manager of Newcastle United, has shouldered the blame following his team's 2-1 Premier League loss to Crystal Palace. Newcastle conceded two late goals on Sunday, a result that sees them fall to 14th in the league standings.

William Osula's goal shortly before halftime gave Newcastle the lead, but Crystal Palace substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta equalized in the 80th minute and then converted a penalty in stoppage time to secure the win for the home side.

"I always have to look at myself first. I'm number one accountable," Howe stated. He acknowledged that his team, despite fielding a younger lineup, should have managed the game better, emphasizing the presence of experienced internationals who should have navigated the defensive aspects more effectively.

Newcastle has now dropped 25 points from winning positions this season, a statistic Howe described as "incredible" and a factor that has "blighted" their campaign. He expressed frustration that the team has been unable to consolidate strong periods of play by scoring more goals and maintaining attacking pressure, stating this is not the tactical instruction provided to the players.

Newcastle's next match is a home fixture against Bournemouth on Saturday.
